2018 Para Servir Adventure

“He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation,”” Mark 16:15. Preaching the Gospel can be done in many ways, it can be done through loving, serving, or sharing even when it is tough. I decided to hop on Geina’s internship train for reasons that range from the fact that I adore missions work and traveling to wanting to be humbled and grown through an out of this country experience! I have been to Guatemala before, on a one week mission trip in 2013, but I realized that I went for selfish reasons. I was going for me and not for God. I went because I could post some cute instagram pictures and put myself on a pedestal to show people what I did. This time around I am putting God first and not saying, “look what I am doing”, but saying, “look what God has given me the opportunity to do!” I am so excited to see how He is going to make an impact on the people we encounter in Guatemala, and also the people here in Tallahassee.

I found out about the internship last year and got a second-hand experience of what it’s like after my two friends Melissa Hedman and Katie Cappellino went. They told me all about how this internship gave them many life-long friendships and opened their eyes to what it really looks like to be completely secure in God. I am ready to gain some life-long best buddies, and grow with them over the 6 weeks and beyond that. I am ready to understand what, “I am good with God,” really means. I am ready to go back to Guatemala and witness all of the overwhelming beauty there. I am ready to love the people there and pour into them however God needs me too. I am ready for God to teach me and grow me while I am there so that when I come back to Tallahassee I can bring all of that knowledge and joy into my school campus, into my friend groups, into my home. This opportunity has already lit a fire inside me to serve and share the Gospel. Not so that I can be glorified, but so that God, the one who is allowing me to go, can receive all the glory. “You have planted them, and they have taken root; they grow and bear fruit,” Jeremiah 12:2.
